Lingonberry Ermtedank

Species: Vaccinium vitis-idaea ‘Erntedank’.
  • Native to Scandinavia and Germany; closely related to Highbush Blueberry and cranberries

 

  • Edible raw, but used in sauces, jams – much like cranberries

 

  • 10” H x 18” W; spreads by underground rhizomes. Grows well in coastal regions

 

  • Prefers well-drained, acidic soil with organic matter; mulch overwinter with straw and pine needles

 

  • Partial to Full Sun; moderate moisture; drainage important to avoid root rot

 

  • NOT self-pollinating; needs a cross pollinator

 

  • Ermtedank means Thanksgiving in German
